Text Box: Using unseasoned timber emphasises the need to be hand worked.  Unseasoned timber (recently felled timber still full of moisture) moves as it dries and does not adhere to the rules of mass production. The moisture makes oak incompatible with steel and machinery.  It is a material that needs to be worked by a craftsperson and is key to one of the reasons why she chose this material. But I like oaks natural longevity without a need for toxic chemicals. It is very good looking, it has character and ages well.  It is British and as I don’t especially like driving I prefer the very local timber ideally from a neighbouring village, often being able to carve the place where the tree once stood on the underside of the work.
Marnie’s designs are original and are often carved with words in a naive style to extend their uniqueness and to tell a tale.
The briefest CV:
Marnie trained in fine furniture making at Bucks College, High Wycombe took her MA in furniture design also at Bucks.
The initial loveseat concept won her the opportunity to show in Milan (which she has sporadically continued to do subsequently) and in New York at their respective International Furniture Fairs.
Millennium Projects in green oak and timber framed buildings inspired Marnie to want to make furniture from the fabulous moving material.  And she did.  And her work is quite different. Contemporary Vernacular.  Furniture for the garden and one day to be treasured within the home.
